Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She is a songwriter, singer, dancer, actress, and philanthropist. The name Shakira is Arabic and means ‘grateful’. She was raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools. She is married to Gerard Pique, a professional footballer, and has 2 children with him, with whom she has fun, making dancing TikTok videos.
They are so cute that now I have to follow her account to see more of this happy content.
When she was little, she was teased about singing “like a goat”. I’m sure those who laughed at her, are not laughing now.
She became passionate about singing, writing, and belly dancing when she was very little.
She wrote her first poem, titled “La rosa de cristal” when she was only four years old. Ever since then the poems she wrote, evolved into songs. When she was still 4, her father took her to a local restaurant where she heard the Doumbek, a traditional drum used in Middle-Eastern music and which typically accompanies belly dancing.
That was when she realized she wanted to be a performer. When she was 13 she met local theater producer Monica Ariza, who was impressed with her and as a result tried to help her career by convincing the Sony Colombia executive to hold an audition for her. He was really impressed with her, which lead to her signing to record 3 albums.
Shakira’s first two albums didn’t get enough recognition and copies sold, but her third album was successful and had six hit singles in it. In 1996, Shakira went on her first international tour. In 1997, she received three Billboard Latin Music Awards for Album of the Year, Video of the Year for her hit “Estoy Aqui”, and Best New Artist. Her fourth album was an even bigger success than her third one. It was inspired by an accident at an airport, in which a suitcase filled with her written lyrics was stolen.
She won an MTV Video Music Award in the category of People's Choice – Favorite International Artist for "Ojos Así" in 2000. Her fifth album, which was her first album in English, was released in 2001. Of course, it was a huge success right away. It helped to establish Shakira's musical presence in the mainstream North American market. The album became the best-selling album of 2002 and became the most successful album of her career to date. The album earned her the title of the biggest Latin female crossover artist in the world. When you’re thinking about Shakira, which is the first song that comes to your mind? Let me know in the comments below.
In early 2008, Forbes named Shakira the fourth top-earning female artist in the music industry. Her song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where she met her husband Gerard Pique.
In 2020, she and Jennifer Lopes performed for the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. According to Billboard, the halftime show had a viewership of 103 million people. It was an important moment for her because she was able to represent the Latino community.
Aside from being the incredible singer and dancer she is, Shakira has taken part in many other businesses and industries. She began her own beauty line, “S by Shakira”, with parent company Puig, in 2010. In 1997, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a Colombian charity with special schools for poor children all around Colombia. It was funded by Shakira and other international groups and individuals. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and is one of their global representatives. Did you know that her influence is so big, that she was named as one of the "World's Greatest Leaders" of 2017 by Fortune? And if you ever go to her hometown, you can see a statue of her in the park near the football stadium there.
We all love Shakira, and we all had wondered at least once in our lifetime - how does she keep her great shape? Stay tuned, because we’re about to find out more about her workout mindset!
Shakira’s Workout Mindset
Shakira works incredibly hard to stay in shape and live a healthy lifestyle. Her trainer and good friend is Anna Kaiser and together they work out and plan her weekly workout routine.
Given that Shakira has been belly-dancing since she was 4 years old, she's got the cardio side of things down. Given the fact that she is not a trained dancer, she sure has some incredible moves.
So the singer also incorporates HIIT, also known as High-Intensity Intervals Training, and strength intervals into her routine to increase endurance and stamina. Although she is good with her cardio, this doesn’t mean that she is not taking it seriously. She dances a few hours every day to keep her cardio game strong.
One of the things she does to make sure her morning routine will go smoothly is to turn off her phone until she is done with it. This is a daily practice also inspired by her trainer. It helps her focus on her workout, before going out in the world again.
A large part of Shakira’s fitness routine has to do with workout tips to stay in shape. Her plan of carefully selected tips within her daily routine can be effective. If you want to work out like Shakira, here’s what you need to know:

She looks fabulous in her 40s and it’s not only because of her workout routine and diet plan but also because she takes good care of her skin. Believe it or not, she keeps things simple, using only Vitamin C serum and sunscreen. These two steps in her skincare routine, combined with her pact against drinking and smoking, keep her hips shaking and her skin glowing.
Now, it’s time to delve deep into her weekly workout routine to see if we can manage to reach something similar to her body and learn how to belly dance and shake hips like her.
Shakira’s Workout Routine
Aside from increased exercise, her fitness routine follows the same simple structure it has for years. Given how much dance plays a part in Shakira's stellar performances, it's no surprise that dance-based fitness makes up an important component of her exercise routine. A long-time belly dancer, Shakira also brings her own touch to the training session. Her workout changes depending on the physical demands of the workday ahead. While dance-based fitness and rehearsals form a significant part of the Colombian singer's workout routine, she does switch up her workouts across the six days of the week that she trains. She doesn’t like skipping any meals and she doesn’t limit or restrict herself, but manages to balance things.
